Stephen Sewell is well known for his writing work, with feature credits including The Boys and Isabelle Eberthardt and television credits such as The Gillies Report. He script edited Chopper and True Love and Chaos, as well as writing many award-winning plays. For the last two years, he’s been Head of Writing for Performance at NIDA.

After more than 30 years as a screenwriter, Stephen is now moving into directing. His first feature is Embedded. He explained that the story was inspired to an extent by Last Tango in Paris, although Embedded is more political. Stephen explained that, “It’s about an Australian journalist who witnesses a massacre and is so distraught about it that he decides to do something quite extreme and radical. The night before he plans to do it, he runs into a woman and spends what he believes to be his last night on earth contemplating what he’s about to do, struggling with her about the morality of what he’s about to do and find the pleasures of love and the possibilities of love and hope at the same time.”
