David Parker has extensive experience as a cinematographer and producer, with credits including Kath and Kimderella, Matching Jack, The Big Steal, Rikky and Pete and Malcolm. The Menkoff Method puts him back in the director’s chair for the first time since 1997 – so how did he enjoy the experience?
Jon Stephens (writer of The Silver Brumby, Neighbours, Something in the Air and Blue Heelers) had been developing the project through White Hot Productions with writer Zac Gillam, and in 2012 John approached David about directing the film. David read the script and liked it but knew that it needed more work. He wanted to take the film in a slightly different direction, “which happens when any director comes onto a project.” Zac Gillam, along with Jon Stephens and David Parker, then spent the following year refining the script and getting it to the point where they considered it ready to shoot.
