Screenworks and Screen Australia present:Screen Industry Opportunities in Asia
Interested in knowing more about working with Asia? Unsure how to start or where to go? Elena Guest, Project Manager, State and Industry Partnerships, Screen Australia, will be sharing Screen Australia’s strategy for facilitating engagement between Australian and Asian screen businesses. Reflecting the desire for many Australian companies wishing to work with Asian partners, Elena will talk about opportunities, challenges and offer practical tips.  Elena’s presentation will be followed by a Q &A and group discussion where those with on the ground experience can also contribute. Indiegogo – Crowdfunding Film: The Future. Now.
Crowdfunding has revolutionised the way feature and documentary projects are funded, taking the power from the corporations and putting it back into the hands of the creators. Indiegogo is the world’s largest crowdfunding platform and its online community has raised millions of dollars for thousands of creative campaigns worldwide. Join Tony Been from Indiegogo as he guides us through running a successful crowdfunding campaign; a workshop in how to create an all-out, communal experience between you and your audience, long before you have a single shot in the can. Indiegogo Presents: Funding your Feature
Whether you want to make a feature length documentary or a drama the stakes rise considerably with your running time. This panel examines the multiple options filmmakers can take to raise the money they need to make their film as BBFF’s filmmakers local, national and international filmmakers share their stories with you. In The Chair with Ed Gibbs & the inimitable Armen Ra
Sure to be a packed session, get up close and personal with Opening Night’s star of the show, the ever fabulous, witty, articulate and philosophical Armen Ra. The master Theremin player will share insights from his colourful life history when he is interviewed in the chair with internationally renowned film and music critic, columnist and broadcaster, Ed Gibbs. The Meeting Place
Byron Bay’s original name is Cavenbah, meaning ‘meeting place.’ In this signature speed-dating event we are offer emerging filmmakers the exclusive opportunity to meet, network and make creative connections in the film world. ‘The Meeting Place’: an hour of pure potential. Death Proof: the Life and Times of a Stunt Performer
The stunt world is one of the most exciting, adrenaline-filled places to be in the film industry, but how do you get into it? Philippe Deseck, veteran stuntman, whose credits include: Street Fighter, The Great Raid, At World’s End, Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader Iron Sky and The Killer Elite – where he worked with Jason Statham and Robert Di Nero – will be giving insight into the physical and mental requirements needed to succeed in the industry.
The workshop will also include some inspiring physical demonstrations from
Philippe and guests. Saturday 8th March, 11am, $10.
FILM FESTIVAL HAPPY
“Simply being happy affects so many areas of the brain: turning genes on and off and changing its structure. Creativity, innovation, learning and flexible thinking are dramatically enhanced by training your brain in happiness – and that’s just the beginning. When we apply this thinking to areas like film, we can change the minds and moods of many.” A funny little film, a series of unlikely events and a nasty betrayal led sometime filmmaker, Toni Powell, into years of research about how she might be happier. Be inspired by this entertaining story shot through with simple wisdom & current science on making yourself a happier life. Saturday 8th March, 2pm, Free.
Making the Impossible Possible: the real story of Rise of the Eco-Warriors
What does it take to make a high concept, high risk, wildly ambitious, genre-
breaking cinema documentary in an unfriendly financial climate, shot in the remote jungles of Borneo? Join director/producer Cathy Henkel and producers Richard Hearman and Mark White. What as they take you down the turbulent waters of conceiving, financing and producing a film of this scale and their journey of navigating the many obstacles and logjams they encountered along the way. Eco-Warriors will be in attendance. Sunday 9th March, 11am, Free.
Masculinity on film
With producer Ross Grayson Bell (Fight Club, Under Suspicion), director Ian W Thomson (Out in the line-up) and feminist writer Amy Gray this workshop will consider shifting popular representations of masculinity in film and the media at large. Does film have an impact on social constructions of masculinity? How have the politics of gender and sexuality transformed the terrain of ‘manhood’ in film in recent years? What is the relationship between representations of masculinity and violenceand is this, also, in a state of transition? Sunday 9th March, 2pm, Free.
