The Great Gatsby got everything again, causing a mixed reaction. One downside was that the results obscured an excellent year for “real” Australian films, our Australian editor suggests.

Let’s do the non-Gatsby film moments first. Best Original Screenplay went to Kim Mordaunt for The Rocket, its only moment of glory on the night. He beat Colin and Cameron Cairnes for 100 Bloody Acres, Morgan O’Reilly and Tim Duffy for Drift, and Ivan Sen for Mystery Road. There is a lot of justice in that choice.
