Let’s face it – the Australian International Documentary Conference has turned Docweek into a lovely way of extracting much, much more value from a keynote speaker than any other domestic screen event. This time round, US documentary maker Alex Gibney has fallen into its silken trap.

The 2014 key figure is Alex Gibney, who provides the opening night film, The Armstrong Lie. It is both a crowd pleaser about sport, drugs and a cycling Demon spawn from Hell, and a lovely case study for documentary makers.
