Open Channel, with the support of Film Victoria, invite filmmakers to submit an idea for a screen-based project to Open Channel’s SHORT & SHARP PITCHING COMPETITION – entries close 5pm Wednesday, 16 October 2013. From television series and feature films to shorts, animation, documentary and digital media – filmmakers are encouraged to pitch a great idea from any genre, format or duration.

Finalists will present their pitch to a live audience and a judging panel of key industry decision-makers at The George Revival Cinema in St Kilda on Thursday, 31 October 2013.
Open Channel’s recently appointed Executive Director Marc Gracie commented, “A good pitch is the tip of an iceberg – below the surface sits all the work, passion and vision of your project.”

“Getting the pitch right is about finding the essence below and bringing it to the surface in a way which will enable the idea to shine to attract the partners it needs to come to fruition – financier, producer, director and cast.”

“The SHORT & SHARP PITCHING COMPETITION provides a concrete opportunity for aspiring filmmakers to hone their idea and to test it in a practical way by putting it before a live audience.”

“The competition has provided pathways for aspiring filmmakers – previous recipients ideas have been developed including Jehan Ratnatunga’s film Arranged which received development funding from Film Victoria.”

This year’s SHORT & SHARP PITCHING COMPETITION winner will receive $1000 in prize money and $1000 Open Channel training and equipment hires voucher.

The winner will also have a terrific opportunity for their project to be pitched by the winning producer of Short & Sharp Pro at the SPAA / Holding Redlich Pitching Competition in November this year.
