The official committee convened by Screen Australia has nominated The Rocket on the grounds that it is an Australian film made in Lao.
Each eligible country (most of the world really) sends one entry from which a shortlist is compiled in January.
Of our previous six entries, only Samson & Delilah made the shortlist. Kudos here to Warwick Thornton and Kath Shelper, and the team’s command of both English and Warlpiri. Lore, in German, directed by Cate Shortland with many other key creatives, was offered in 2012.
