A ban on live odds advertising during sporting events has came into effect on Thursday, when the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) registered new codes of practice which limit gambling advertising during sports broadcasts.

Chairman Chris Chapman said ACMA had worked with broadcasters to enhance and harmonise the regulations to ensure they provided appropriate community safeguards. Sports fans could now enjoy broadcasts without the constant intrusion of live odds promotion during play, he said.
