Faced with anger, incredulity and possible insurrection, the AFI has agreed to provide the full suite of AACTA documentary awards.

Desperate to reduce the number of awards, faced with an ongoing shortfall in sponsorship, the AFI has been attempting to reduce the number of awards. They are expensive to run.

Instead, the AACTA Awards are now at least four awards longer than they were in January 2013, with a further expansion possible. The AFI has been confronted in public by hostile Academy members mounting a public campaign, and the attempt to dramatise the financial problem has still not drawn a white knight from the fiducary forest.
