For unknown reasons, even the awards night at the St Kilda Film Festival was tucked into the success spell which has covered this 30th anniversary. The stand-out winner is John Evagora, whose film Joey won no less than four awards. Explosions lit up two awards as well, so the glory went to comparatively few pictures.
Awards nights are intrinsically not interesting.. ‘I would like to thank my mum, and the post-production dudes who surprisingly did not corrupt my files when the fixed price contract extended to 427 hours..’ etc. They can be redeemed by food and good plonk, but the St Kilda Fest is not flush with cash and the tickets are not $275 either, so both these attractions can be easily purchased at your local takeway and consumed in the comfort of your own home.
