Over the first weekend, on four screens, The Sapphires took $40,990 in New York and Los Angeles. That is a satisfying $10,225/cinema.

The Weinstein Company of course is running this, and it is the masters of the teaser opening and spreading release. That began with multiple film festivals across the US, where the film has taken six audience awards. Now it is running as a platform release, which will go wide over the next few weeks. If the projects runs true to Weinstein form, it will expand in several stages, and hover around the fifty cinemas mark.
