The Australian Film Institute, home of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts, is contemplating its red ink and contemplating some amputations. Tough times, but CEO Damian Trewhella says it will survive. But at what cost, wonders David Tiley.

The team which brought the first and second AACTA Awards to the Australian industry and wider public has now been halved in size.

Missing, as of today, are a total of six positions. Gone is the assistant manager of the awards department. Also the editor, who did the online communications and press releases. The events and sponsorship manager is leaving as well. As is the front of house, membership administration and research person. And the two people making up the membership team.
