The event is being hosted by Marc Gracie and the finalists who will be pitching their project on the evening include:

Martine Broderick – The Music Box
David Frizzell – Changi Brownlow
Jane Hampson – Tamil Tigress
Shannon Marinko – Fast Friends
Stuart Willis & Mathew Clayfield – Nocturnes

The Winner of this year’s Final will receive a Prize valued at $3,500 comprising:

– A one-to-one intensive mentorship workshop with leading film industry producer David Redman.
– Complimentary two day pass to attend Open Channel’s forthcoming Generation Next Documentary Conference to be held at Cinema Nova, Melbourne on 6th and 7th December.
– $2,000 worth of hire equipment (subject to terms and conditions)
– Opportunity to be selected to compete in the National Pitching Competition at SPAA Fringe at Cockatoo Island Sydney on October 27.

Open Channel, Executive Director Jennie Hughes comments, “I’m very excited that we have such a great array of talented filmmakers pitching their projects at our annual Short and Sharp Pitching Competition this year. We also have for the first time the winner of our Inaugural Regional Victoria pitching competition participating in the event and once again Marc Gracie has secured a wonderful panel of judges – it’s going to be a great evening”.

ALAN FINNEY (OAM) is Chair of the Australian Film Institute and has an extensive background in film production and distribution. During his time with Roadshow Film Distributors and Walt Disney Studios Alan oversaw the theatrical releases of some of the biggest box office hits including Mad Max, Muriel’s Wedding, The Castle, Pirates of the Caribbean and Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Man’s Chest, The Sixth Sense and Finding Nemo. In addition to recently being awarded the Order of Australia (OAM) for services to Australian Film in November 2010 Alan received the Screen Producer’s Association of Australia’s Maura Fay Award for Services to the Industry.

CHARLIE CARMAN is currently Manager of Script Development at Film Victoria. Charlie’s first life was a Publisher where she set up and ran a media company co-owned by Pan Macmillan and Channel Four/FilmFour (which was the number one media publisher in the UK for 3 years running). She then moved into film, and was trained as a script developer/development tutor by two of Europe’s most prestigious film organisations, The Script Factory and ARISTA. In addition to being a script editor or consultant on numerous features scripts and TV series, Charlie has worked freelance as a reader/assessor for Screen Australia, Film Victoria and Screen NSW, as well as Working Title and Miramax.

DAVID REDMAN is a leading feature film producer and co-founder of Instinct Entertainment one of Australia’s most prolific and successful feature film production companies. David has worked with a range of companies including Paramount, Universal, Roadshow, Channel Nine and Virgin Interactive. David was Associate Producer on Before the Rain which was nominated for an Academy Award and produced films including Charlie and Boots, Till Human Voices Wake Us (starring Helena Bonham Carter and Guy Pearce) and Strange Bedfellows (starring Paul Hogan and Michael Caton).
