Described by the release as “an industry phenomenon”, Julia Overton has been awarded the 2012 Stanley Hawes Award, which honours the memory of the first Producer-in-Chief of the Australian National Film Board and Commonwealth Film Unit.

There are a couple of quirky edges to this. Julia Overton’s credits and much of her agency work is wider than documentary. She has producer credits on Cut, Spider and Rose, Fistful of Flies, Until the End of the World, and Travelling North. She has television credits as well. Tom Zubrycki gained the same award in 2010, so they jointly run the first household that has two of them on the same mantlepiece. For completely different professional trajectories.
