Flickerfest, Australia’s premier international short film festival, opens at the Kino Cinemas with two world-class programmes of award-winning Victorian shorts specially curated for Melbourne on Thursday 16th February.
Best of Melbourne 1 commences at 6.30pm, followed by Best of Melbourne 2 at 9.15pm. Intermission pizza and drinks will take place in between the two programmes.
‘This year the festival has received a record 2200 entries, a large number of which come from the pool of talented, creative and innovative short film makers in Melbourne and Victoria. To showcase the amazing quality of local films I’ve curated two full programmes of all-Victorian shorts, including many Melbourne premieres, that promise to inspire audiences with the depth of talent in the Victorian short film community today,’ said Festival Director Bronwyn Kidd.
The Best of Melbourne Shorts Programme 1 features six films, four of which will have their Australian premiere at Flickerfest. Several of these shorts have screened at national and international festivals to great acclaim. Miranda Nation’s ELI THE INVINCIBLE won the prestigious Flickerfest SBS Award, the broadcast award which sees SBS purchase the film to screen on SBS.
In addition to our programme and as a special highlight Flickerfest will also include one international film in the evenings screenings The ING DIRECT Award Winner for Best Short Film 2012 ‘Ebony Society’ directed by Tammy Davies from New Zealand.
