Joseph Olin interviewed Dean Hoff (Nickelodeon) and Chris Waters (Oktobor Animation) on the development of the deal that brought The Penguins of Madagascar and other Nickelodeon series to New Zealand.
Hoff explained a little of the background to Nickelodeon and the deal. As for Nick, it has 6 CG shows, all 11 minute per episode, in its pipeline (plus 2D animated content), so its output is 66 minutes a week or – as Hoff put it – “a feature every two weeks.” Nickelodeon has long outsourced aspects of its production work, and has spent considerable time looking for partners who can produce world class animation. It has been particularly interested in finding partners who can produce to a range of briefs as the styles of all six shows are quite different.
